One of the world’s most adored coloratura sopranos, Sumi Jo, presents a tribute to the legendary diva synonymous with bel canto, the repertoire of which is marked by brilliancy and beautiful singing.

Maria Callas captivated generations of music-lovers with her dazzling renditions of the great soprano roles in operas such as Lucia di Lammermoor, I Puritani, La sonnambula, and the Barber of Seville.

In the twenty first century it is Sumi Jo’s thrilling interpretations of these same roles which have brought audiences to their feet.

The most famous musician to come from Korea, where she has an enormous national following, Sumi Jo is renowned for the precision, agility, and warmth of her voice.

Her career soared when she came to the attention of maestro Herbert von Karajan, who described hers as a voice from above.

Since then she has performed with the world’s leading conductors in all the most famous opera houses and concert halls and has become a Grammy award winner. This year her rendition of Simple Song from the film Youth was nominated for an Oscar.

Audiences on this Australian tour will have the opportunity to hear greatly loved works associated with Maria Callas as well as many of Sumi Jo’s other favourite arias and song.

Sumi Jo will be accompanied by acclaimed pianist Gary Matthewman, a sought-after collaborator with many great singers.

“Sumi Jo, a tribute to Maria Callas”, will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting entertainment offerings of 2016, and is proudly presented by impresario Andrew McKinnon, as a highlight of his thirtieth anniversary celebrations.
